About

This site is dedicated to discussion of an obscure play called The Tragical History, Admirable Atchievments and various events of Guy Earl of Warwick, printed in 1661 by Thomas Vere and William Gilbertson.

In itself, Guy is not a play worthy of our attention, but some scholars believe that, although printed in 1661, it may be a work from the Elizabethan (or early Jacobean) period, and its Clown, called Sparrow, is a satire on Shakespeare. If this were true, and we could establish who wrote Guy, this would be a remarkable new discovery about the literary life and times of Shakespeare.

I have had three articles related to the subject published in the journal Notes and Queries, full-text versions of which are available on the Articles page. An online copy of The Tragical History, Admirable Atchievments and various events of Guy Earl of Warwick is available here.
